Homecoming Invite

13th July 2011

7:30pm
The Regal Theatre, Minehead.
Tickets: Adults £5.50, Friends £5.00, ES40’s/Students £3.00. Under 10’s free.

Homecoming is a multi-disciplinary event to celebrate the creative endeavours of graduates from West Somerset and illuminate the importance of the arts in the county.

Examining the relationship between contemporary and rural, the evening will showcase art, design, fashion, dance, performance and film made by over 23 graduates originally from the area. In exploring where this talent is nurtured, and the potential for imaginative arts projects in the Regal, the event will utilise every space within the theatre. From the dressing rooms to the bar, the stairwells to the balcony, the evening will transform the entire building into a journey through the theatre and the live installations of the inspired work created by young people from West Somerset.

Including; Leanne Anderson, Elizabeth Banks, Hannah Bishop, Louise Body, Joseph Buckler, Elizabeth Crossman, Jacob Daley, Sarah Dawes, Ben Dean, Theo Hawkins, Jac Husebo, Amy Lewis, Carl Lewis, Tom Paskin Robbins, Claire Price, Amanda Quartly, Jennifer Reed, Adam Ridler, Tom Stephens, Amy Wigglesworth & Angela Wood.

The event is being curated by Hannah Bishop in association with Somerset Art Works’ Professional Development Programme for Artists, ‘Creative Pathway 2011’. The evening will feature the play ‘Kitty Litter’ written and directed by Jac Husebo, which made it’s debut at E15 Acting School's Debut Festival 2011, as well as work by Amy Jo Lewis who is set complete her MA in Woven Textiles at the Royal College of Art. Alongside the live work being exhibited there will also a publication featuring writing from a number of young graduates exploring the issues concerning the project and artistic people within the county. One of which is Thomas Robbins who, after studying briefly at Central St Martins and Chelsea College of Art and Design, has gone on to work with numerous charity and socially engaged projects. These range from being Head of Content for an online charity platform, to managing his own youth engagement scheme, and even representing the UK at the World Summit for Media for Children and Youth in Sweden last June.

Considering the current funding situation for the arts within the county, Homecoming prove to local people, the council and the wider artistic environment that the arts are valuable, particularly within the more rural secluded area of West Somerset.

We look forward to seeing you in July!
