Homecoming


Homecoming last night was a huge success! 150 people from across the county and beyond turned out to see what the young graduates had to offer and were more than impressed.

HOMECOMING IS TONIGHT!!

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT

The Regal is looking fantastic, rehearsals have been taking place and the excitement is really building!
There are still tickets on the door so never fear if you haven't got yours in advance.

As the event is spread throughout the whole space, our designer, Carl Lewis, has also designed a Homecoming Map so that you can find your way through the space and not miss any of the amazing acts and artwork we have lined up for you.

Amy Jo Lewis: Texprint 2011


We are very pleased to announce that Textile designer and Homecoming contributor Amy Jo Lewis has gotten into Texprint 2011.

'Texprint provides exceptional access to the best of British textile design talent - connecting industry to selected graduate designers just emerging from college or university, and to Texprint alumni, many of whom now enjoy high profile creative roles within the international textile, fashion and interior design industries.'

In June of this year over 200 Textile designers from across the UK are submitted to Texprint by their tutors. After portfolio reviews and interviews 24 designers are picked to exhibit their work at INDIGO, Paris, the international textile design specialty show, and Amy Jo Lewis is one of them.

Come along and see her exception work this Wednesday at Homecoming.

Regal Theatre listings in the Free Press

Every inch given to graduates' showcase.

EVERY available space in the Regal Theatre, Minehead, will be used for a special show focusing on the creativity of West Somerset.
Homecoming, on Wednesday, July 13, will showcase art, design, fashion, dance, performance and film made by over 23 graduates originally from the area.

It will also explore the potential for imaginative arts projects in the Regal. From the dressing rooms to the bar, the stairwells to the balcony, the entire building will be transformed.


The evening will feature the play ‘Kitty Litter’ written and directed by Jac Husebo, which made it’s debut at E15 Acting School's Debut Festival 2011, as well as work by Amy Jo Lewis who is set complete her MA in Woven Textiles at the Royal College of Art.


Alongside the live work being exhibited there will also a publication featuring writing from a number of young graduates exploring the issues concerning the project and artistic people within the county.


Among them is Thomas Robbins who, after studying briefly at Central St Martins and Chelsea College of Art and Design, has gone on to work with numerous charity and socially engaged projects, including representing the UK at the World Summit for Media for Children and Youth in Sweden last June.


Artists involved in Homecoming include Leanne Anderson, Elizabeth Banks, Hannah Bishop, Louise Body, Joseph Buckler, Elizabeth Crossman, Jacob Daley, Sarah Dawes, Ben Dean, Theo Hawkins, Jac Husebo, Amy Jo Lewis, Carl Lewis, Tom Paskin Robbins, Amanda Quartly, Jennifer Reed, Adam Ridler, Tom Stephens, Amy Wigglesworth & Angela Wood.

The event is being curated by Hannah Bishop, in association with Somerset Art Works’ Professional Development Programme for Artists, ‘Creative Pathway 2011’. It begins at 7:30pm and tickets cost up to £5.50 from the Regal Theatre box office.

Homecoming Programme

As we speak the finishing touches to the Homecoming Programme are being made ready to be sent to the Exmoor Printers first thing tomorrow morning! Being sponsored by Louise Crossman Architects, the programme is a 12 page mini publication, not only showing the line up of acts for Wednesday night, but also three articles exploring the issues that surround the event (written by Theo Hawkins, Andrew Davey and Tom Paskin Robbins), and statements and bios from each of the graduates involved. Designed by the wonderfully talents and hard working Carl Lewis, the programme will be available on the night and will definitely be worth a read! Here's a cheeky sneak peek at the cover:

Louise Crossman Architects Sponsorship


We are very pleased to announce that the lovely people at Louise Crossman Architects are now sponsoring Homecoming!

Louise Crossman Architects was established in Withycombe, West Somerset, close to Minehead, Taunton and Wellington, in 1989 and is a versatile practice with a reputation for providing imaginative, sustainable and cost effective solutions, with a sensitive, environmentally friendly approach.

LCA have worked with the Regal Theatre previously. This was a project to modernise the theatre in order to meet the Disability and Discrimination Access requirements and create a dramatic presence on the street. Image below:



Not only that but we are lucky enough to have a Cerys Connet and Jenny Matravers from the practice, also graduates and locals from the area, exhibiting their work in the bar for Homecoming.
